Dinner times

Dinner times.

Often there is a debate on dinner times which are assigned, - breakfast and lunch are turn up when you want bar in the restaurants last morning.

Your reservation will show what your booked on, and if available you can change online.

In Europe dinner times are typically a bit later, I would think they will be 6 pm for main and 8.30 pm for late. Slightly later than in the Caribbean. Dinner can take two hours. I have on DCL in the Mediterranean actually had dinners start at 6.15 or even 6.30 pm, ( on a Rome day).

Things to consider and misnomers.

The facts.

Dinner time is personal, to the time you typically would eat at home. I.e. If as a family you eat dinner at 8 on at home, then do choose Late dinner. I understand in Spain the Spanish like to eat late.
Typically main dinner will fill up and not have availability and have a waitlist. Late is easy to get.
You often are able to switch to Late on the cruise, but going from Late to Main is harder.
Typically Main is younger families and Late is adults and older teenagers.
If you want a quieter dinner, late with less young children maybe better.
Last morning disembarkation breakfast is assigned to dinner sittings something circa 7am and 8.15 with a smaller offering at Cabanas.
If a bit late in arriving at dinner, they will still serve you, i.e. If you on, Rome day went to dinner say up to 30 minutes late they will serve you.
Your body processes food better Morning and afternoon, and as we get closer to bed gets less effective. But if you sleep later then that maybe ok.
Late dinner may rush a bit for fireworks to get a good viewing position.
If on Late and back on ship at say 5.30pm  you and your children are likely to snack on deck 9 or get room service before 8.30 which could effect what you and they eat at a "proper meal".
Children are collected on Late to children clubs on request, if they eat in the club they typically go around 5.30 pm.

Misnomers

In Europe with 6.45/7pm, port departure you miss Main.- not actually true, if on port adventures you do get back before 5.30pm, and I only know of St Petersburg where DCL trips could interfere with Main dinner. ( they clearly state it then).
Only if you go DIY or have private shore trips, could you get back near port departure, - your choice.

If you think you will be back late and choose Late dinner, you will miss a show, as show times are allocated to dinner times. Main -the show is after it, Late -the show is before it.

Some say, Main dinner is " rushed" , - two hours for each sitting, no difference, but could be a feeling if being rushed after a day out, if you like a long shower etc.

The confusing " time zone misnomer ". A few say, if you eat at 6 pm at Home in the USA then change to eat in Late dinner, as that's closer to your body time zone. Well you will be getting up early for Breakfast and tours, then eat Lunch local time, why would dinner be different. Having traveled a lot, jet lag is better going West with the sun, and harder going East. However it is the Sun that resets your body clocks, yes clocks, your brain has one, but all your body has internal clocks and when they are not acting together, that's the cause of  jet lag, so a Factor is the Sun and the other Factor is when and what you eat resets your clocks. Children adapt quicker.

Myself my preference is Main then show that feels logical and I like a gap between eating and bed. After a long hot day, an air conditioned dinner is refreshing. But as said, it's personal.
